We're writing to you about your offer of a place at the University of Sheffield.
In common with many other universities, we ask applicants who have accepted an offer of a place on a campus-based course to declare whether or not they have any 'relevant' criminal convictions. 'Relevant' convictions are unspent convictions for one of the following offences (or the equivalent if committed outside the UK):
- Any kind of violence against the person including (but not limited to) threatening behaviour, offences concerning the intention to harm and offences which resulted in actual bodily harm
- Offences listed in the Sexual Offences Act 2003
- The unlawful supply of controlled drugs or substances where the conviction concerns commercial drug dealing or trafficking
- Offences involving firearms
- Offences involving arson
- Offences listed in the Terrorism Act 2006
If you have an unspent conviction for one of the offences listed above, please notify the Admissions Service by emailing convictions@sheffield.ac.uk no later than 31 August 2019.
Please include in your email your name and Sheffield applicant number, together with the precise offence for which you were convicted, the date of the conviction, and the sentence you received. If we require further details, we’ll let you know.
We’ll use the information you supply to identify any additional support that will help you transition to life and study at the University, and to ensure we meet our duties of care both to you and to other students and staff.
If you don't have any relevant convictions, you don't need to respond to this email.
