Dear Student,

Thank you for applying for University of Leeds Postgraduate accommodation. Please read ALL the information below carefully.

All accommodation offered is self-catered, sharing a kitchen between 4 to 9 students (depending on residence). Please click the following link for information regarding Postgraduate residences:

Blenheim Point

Grayson Heights

Royal Park Flats

St Marks

Sentinel Towers

Shared Houses (see attached information)

Leodis Residences

PLEASE NOTE that when you sign a contract, you are committing yourself to pay for university accommodation until the end of that contract and will not be able to shorten the length of your contract.

IMPORTANT NEWS – PLEASE READ

Grayson Heights

Please note when selecting Grayson Heights, it is located approximately 2 miles (3.2km) away from the University of Leeds. Regular buses (10mins walk then bus directly to campus OR bus direct to city centre then 10mins walk to campus) run daily.

Shared Houses (on campus flats or houses)

This year we are able to offer some of our on campus shared houses to Postgraduate Students.  The residences vary in size and facilities, please see the attached information sheet for further information.  IMPORTANT If you select Shared House as your preference on our application form, unfortunately you are unable to state a specific house or flat.  These rooms will also be offered on a 51 week contract basis.

North Hill House

As well as our shared houses, we also have North Hill House which is a property approximately 20 minutes’ walk to campus.  All 12 rooms are ensuite sharing a kitchen.  Further information can be found on the attached information sheet.

Further details of all these residences can be found on our website at http://accommodation.leeds.ac.uk

What to do now
To be allocated to a suitable room, please complete the attached form and return it no later than 12noon (GMT+1) on Thursday 11th July 2019 by e-mail: rcspga@adm.leeds.ac.uk or fax: +44 (0)113 343 6077.

IMPORTANT: You must complete the form regardless of what you have chosen as your preferred residence on your on-line application form.  If you do not complete this form, your application will not be considered, and the sooner you reply, the sooner we will allocate you a room.  If we do not receive this form by 11th July, we will assume that you no longer need accommodation.  After 11th July, we can no longer guarantee you a room but we will do our best to house you.

ATTENDING A PRE-SESSIONAL COURSE?                                                                                                             If you are attending a Language Course and will be arriving in Leeds during July or August and require university accommodation, you MUST still complete this form. Once you return this form by the deadline date, we will offer accommodation to you from the date your temporary University accommodation ends.

IMPORTANT: You should think carefully before making your choice and consider the requirements of your course. Once you have accepted your contract, you will not be able to change the contract length, unless you apply for a different room.

Please note that whilst the University will try and take your preferences into account, due to the large number of students applying for University accommodation there can be no guarantee that your preferences will be met.  Once you have taken up your tenancy in accommodation this is a binding legal commitment for the full duration of the tenancy. The majority of Postgraduate Students that we house in our accommodation are international students, and although many students request to live with English speaking postgraduates so they can improve their language skills, we are not usually able to offer this option.  UK Postgraduate students usually live in private accommodation, please see the last paragraph for information regarding private accommodation.

We receive a very high number of forms, and some students email their forms to us on more than one occasion. When this happens, this does delay our processes and can mean that it takes longer for students to receive an offer from us.  As a result of this, we kindly ask that you only send your form to us once.

 WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?

Once we have received your form, you will receive an acknowledgement from us via email.  We will allocate your accommodation from mid-July and you will be sent an email to advise you to log onto the portal to view your offer and accept your contract.  We will aim to send you an offer as soon as possible.  If you have not received an email by 22nd August 2019, please contact Accommodation Services.  Please be aware that although we ask for a preference we cannot always guarantee that you will be offered your choice, as some residences are in higher demand than others.  We will however make an offer of a room to you by 22nd August 2019.

IMPORTANT: You must accept your contract and pay the £200 deposit within 4 days of the accommodation offer.  Failure to do this will result in your offer of accommodation being withdrawn and your room will be automatically offered to another student.  You will not normally be made an alternative offer.

 PAYING YOUR DEPOSIT

When accepting your offer of accommodation, please follow the link to pay your £200 deposit.  This can be paid preferably by card on-line see our webpage for further information Paying your Deposit

However, if you have to pay by bank transfer, you must quote your student number on all correspondence (9 digits, starting 20-------).  This will ensure that the money is transferred to the correct account.  If you decide to pay by bank transfer or flywire, please e-mail a copy of the transfer (quoting “BANK TRANSFER RECEIPT” in subject line) to rcspga@adm.leeds.ac.uk within 4 days of your e-mailed offer (please be aware that bank transfers can sometimes take up to 10 days to reach our account).  Please note if you do not pay your deposit and accept the contract, we will withdraw your offer.

PLEASE NOTE: At the end of your tenancy, your deposit will be refunded back you via the method you paid.  If you pay by bank tranfsr4e or flywire, we will require your bank details to arrange the refund, this process can take up to 6 weeks to refund.

NO LONGER COMING TO LEEDS?  If you are no longer coming to Leeds and have accepted your contract and paid your deposit, please inform us immediately, If you do not contact us you will have to pay rent for your allocated room until a replacement is found and you will not be refunded your £200 deposit (This also applies if you contact us AFTER your contract should have started).

RECEIVED AN ACCOMMODATION OFFER BUT DON’T YET HAVE YOUR VISA?

If your visa application is delayed but you have received an accommodation offer, we would recommend that you reject our accommodation offer.  This is because if you do not come to Leeds and have accepted the accommodation offer, you will have to pay rent until we find another student to take over the contract for your room (you may have to pay up to a maximum of 8 weeks’ rent).  If you reject the accommodation offer and then obtain your visa, please contact us again and we will make you another offer of accommodation (although we cannot guarantee it would be the same room and residence).

 ARRIVING EARLY?   REQUIRE TEMPORARY ACCOMMODATION?

If you need to arrive in Leeds before your residence contract starts or require accommodation on a temporary basis whilst looking for private accommodation in Leeds, we provide temporary university accommodation at Ellerslie Hall.  The charge for this is approximately £24.50 per night, which is on a room-only basis.  Temporary university accommodation is available from 28th August to 10.00 am on 18th September. However, if you have a contract with us for the academic year then you will be able to stay until your room in your term-time accommodation is available.  To apply, please complete the Early Arrival Form which is available in early August on the website at http://accommodation.leeds.ac.uk/early

 ALTERNATIVES TO UNIVERSITY ACCOMMODATION

Many postgraduate students coming to Leeds choose private accommodation instead of university accommodation. There is lots of accommodation in Leeds for students ranging from Studios and Large developments (similar to University owned) to shared houses.  If you choose to look for private accommodation, we recommend that you do so through our sister organisation, Unipol. Details of properties and useful advice can be found at http://www.unipol.org.uk. Leeds University Union also offer advice on their website for postgraduate students who are looking for accommodation https://www.luu.org.uk/student-advice/. If you are interested in this type of accommodation, please make sure that you follow their advice. You must not accept a contract for university accommodation if you wish to look for private accommodation as the contract will be legally binding and you may then have to pay rent on both accommodations. If you have any questions about renting private accommodation you are welcome to contact the advice centre for independent and free advice by emailing advice@luu.leeds.ac.uk

PLEASE ENSURE THAT YOU RETURN THE ATTACHED POSTGRADUATE ACCOMMODATION APPLICATION FORM NO LATER THAN 12 noon (GMT+1) on 11th July 2019.

We look forward to receiving your application.
